ANDREA NEWMAN

An ambitious young woman well-known amongst her colleagues for grabbing every opportunity that comes her way, Andrea Newman has grown in leaps and bounds in her career over the seven years that she has been employed at Atlantis Seafood Products (ASP).

She was initially hired as a cleaner, although she only held that position for a single day before a manager scoped her out and noticed her potential. She was placed in the quality control department and worked hard at her job while she was studying HR in her spare time. However, she quickly realised that her heart was leading her towards a career in management.

“I said to myself – I like what I’m doing. I’m learning a lot. But I’d like to try something else.”

She discussed with HR and was transitioned into a production clerk role, following which, she changed her major at college to operations management. Eventually, through hard work and dedication, she was offered the position of production factory supervisor.

“As I’ve worked over these past seven years, I’ve grown. Every opportunity that I was given has been beneficial and helped me learn. I’ve taken it all in, and I’m doing something with it. I’m still learning, and it’s going to take me far,” she says.

When asked what she believes her superpower to be, Andrea insists that she’s excellent at spotting and solving minor issues before they turn into big problems – a superpower that she thinks all women possess. Andrea talks fondly about how women are the powerhouses of the Atlantis community.

“We can multitask, and we don’t take everything personally. Women are also quick thinkers and capable of finding solutions to every problem. Better yet, we solve problems before they even occur.”

So, what exactly does the future hold for Ms Newman? She hopes to one day take on the role of general manager – a position currently held by her mentor, Roland.

“I can be something much bigger. One day, I see myself in Roland’s position as a general manager. I love the way Roland takes control, listens, and solves problems. He’s an amazing manager. Everything I’ve learnt in my current position, I’ve learned from Roland,” Andrea says, smiling.

“I want to make something of myself. I want to be someone. I like to work hard. I like to learn, and I want to know more. I also want to make my mom proud. She was a single mother who raised us all alone, completely by herself. That’s what has driven me to become the person I am today and what drives me to reach my dreams,” she concludes.
